Self service business intelligence tools promise to put reporting directly in the hands of the people who need it, no ticket, no wait, no data team standing between the question and the answer. That promise only holds as far as the data underneath goes. A slick interface pulling from siloed or outdated records still hands back a slick, incomplete answer. The dashboard was never the hard part.

Real-time and batch data integration are not the same problem. Most systems still connect on a schedule: pull records at midnight, refresh a dashboard every few hours, sync overnight and hope nothing urgent happened in between. That works fine for reporting. It falls apart the moment a decision depends on knowing something the second it becomes true, not the next morning. Teams find out after the fact.

Every enterprise transformation opens a window where risk visibility drops. Due diligence periods, system cutovers, and leadership changes don't wait for the next scheduled review. Most frameworks were built for a stable org chart, not one in motion. Teams running risk assessments on the annual calendar find out too late: the vendor with a lapsed license, the employee whose access should have been revoked weeks ago. The gap doesn't close until monitoring runs on the transformation's timeline instead.

Mainstream and alternative social media are not the same monitoring problem. The platforms differ in structure: no central company to request records from, encryption by default, identities that don't hold still. Most monitoring programs default to the tools built for platforms people used five years ago. When the gap goes unaddressed, the risk doesn't disappear, it just moves somewhere the program can't see.
